9 ways to get rid of laziness
14.11.2021Are you lazy? Now and then, laziness happens to everyone - it is a cry for help from your psyche, which feels overwhelmed. But if you notice that laziness is becoming chronic, it could be a sign that something is happening to you, for example, you are doing the wrong thing or you have a too long list of responsibilities.
If you cannot quickly eliminate the cause of laziness - change jobs or reduce the list of household responsibilities - I have come up with 9 ways that help me get rid of laziness - become more productive and achieve my goals faster. I share my experience with you - this is my contribution to the harmony of the world.
1. Set achievable goals for yourself.
The struggle to achieve unrealistic goals inevitably leads to burnout - this is a state of mental exhaustion, which completely deprives you of joy both from the process of achieving the goal and from the successes already achieved. For example, burnout at work can lead to a loss of motivation and a desire to run away from responsibilities.
Burnout - although it is not a medical diagnosis, the symptoms of burnout are recognized by healthcare professionals. Decision - you just have to keep putting one foot in front of the other: divide the strategic goal into several tactical ones. Tactical objectives must be clearly delineated and achievable in a short timeframe. If a tactical goal cannot be achieved in one day, week or month, it should be divided into more fractional components. By setting yourself realistic in terms of scope and time to achieve the goal, you will have a sense of control over the situation - self-confidence, which will inevitably lead you to the goal.
2. Don't expect to be perfect.
The stereotypes of modern culture impose on people a complex of perfectionists - the belief that the ideal can and should be achieved, and the imperfect result of work has no right to exist. Such a demanding attitude towards oneself causes colossal psychological damage.
A 2017 study that looked at college students between 1989 and 2016 for the cause of laziness. The results show that in the modern world people are faced with a very competitive environment that puts unrealistic demands and expectations before them - this becomes the cause of their anxiety and self-doubt with all the ensuing consequences - bad habits, laziness and depression. At the same time, parents put forward excessive demands in front of their children, without reaching which children are instilled in an inferiority complex, which, in turn, is compensated by bad habits and uncontrolled behavior.
Perfectionism causes people to be overly critical of themselves and others. Solution: the perfect is the enemy of the good. This means that you cannot be the best in everything and always. Be kind to yourself. Give yourself the right to be wrong.
3. Internal monologue - it should be positive.
Negative inner monologue nullifies your efforts to achieve your goal in all aspects of your life. Telling yourself that you are a lazy person is a form of negative self-talk.
You can stop your negative inner voice by practicing positive self-talk. Instead of saying, “I cannot do this, tell yourself, “I will do anything, what is in my power to make it happen."
4. Use your strengths.
Take a moment to reflect on your strengths when setting goals or preparing for a challenge. Try to apply them to different aspects of life. Research has shown that focusing on strengths increases productivity, positive emotions, and work engagement.
5. Recognize your accomplishments.
Patting yourself on the back for a job well done will help you motivate yourself to move towards your goal. Consider writing down your accomplishments, whether at work or at home. This is a great way to build self-esteem and a positive attitude.
6. Ask for help.
People think that asking for help is a sign of weakness. But if you do not ask for help when you are drowning, it will turn out to be a disaster for you.
A 2018 study by Trusted Source found that people who do not seek help from colleagues tend to be insecure, unhappy with their jobs, and have lower productivity levels. Their employers also perceived them less favorably.
Oddly enough, but people like to help. Seeking help will increase your chances of success and help you connect with people who will motivate you.
7. Make boring things fun.
We tend to avoid work that we find tedious. While jobs such as cleaning or doing laundry are not particularly enjoyable, their routine can be turned into an adventure. Try listening to music or a podcast, or turning on a fitness tracker to see how many calories you burn or how many steps you take to complete - these tasks will add value to your work.
8. Reward yourself.
In addition to internal motivation, people are moved towards the goal by the external signs of their achievement - reward. Focus on what you get when you finish your current job, such as getting closer to a promotion or rewarding yourself for a job well done. Celebrate the end of a big project - invite your friends to a party.
9. Communicat with animals.
Communication with our little brothers is what is guaranteed to distract you from disturbing thoughts. The fact is that the nature of communication between people and a pet excludes factors that tire people - setting goals, controlling the situation, evaluating themselves and “what people think”. Communication outside these conventions relaxes our psyche from excessive control and self-esteem.
The solution is to give your four-legged pet half an hour a day, this will relieve your inner tension for the remaining 23.30 hours. And if you don't have an animal at home, come visit the Animal Park petting zoo (Kiev, VDNKh): two hours spent in the company of our residents will give you strength and motivation to spend the next week in the company of people.
